10 Must-Watch Netflix Series of 2021

Here are the 10 must-watch Netflix series of 2021 that I really enjoyed watching during my spare time. Let’s see if you’ve seen it all!

I can say that 2021 is the best year for K-drama and Netflix series that gave us a lot of excitement and fun while watching. So I made a list of the Netflix series I watched in the last year. So if you haven’t watched these series, you better start watching them soon. I will write the list according to their release date.

My 10 Must-Watch Netflix Series for 2021

1. The second season of Love Alarm

The Love Alarm Season 2 (좋아 하면 2) was released on Netflix on March 12, 2021, while the first season was in 2019. It took about two years before the second season was released.

The story of this korean drama series is a story about an app created by an unknown developer that gives you an alert when someone likes you near 10 meters away. It stars Kim So Hyun as Kim Jojo, Jung Ga Ram as Lee Hye Young, and Song Kang as Hwang Sun Oh.

I also visited some of the filming locations for the first season of Love Alarm.

2. Go to Heaven

Move to Heaven (무브: 나는 ) is also a Netflix original series that was released on May 14, 2021. It was directed by Kim Sung-ho and written by Yoon Ji-ryeon. Lee Je Hoon starred in the Netflix series (one of my favorite korean actors)And Tan Jong Sang, Hong Seung Hee, and Ji Jin Hee.

A 10-episode series about a young Geu-ru (Tan Joong Sang) with Asperger’s Syndrome who works as a trauma cleaner. His father passed away, leaving him alone to run their Move to Heaven business. One day, this father’s younger brother, Sang Goo (Lee Ji Hoon), came and helped him run the company.

Move to Heaven is also one of our favorite Korean Netflix series of 2021.

3. Sweet and sour

Sweet and Sour (새콤 달콤) is not a series but rather a romantic comedy that was released on Netflix on June 4, 2021. It is based on the novel start love by Kurumi Inoue. The movie stars Jang Ki-Yong, Chae Soo-bin, and Krystal Jung. Sweet and Sour is a love story at first but got skewed by work.

4. Kingdom: Northern Ash

Kingdom: Ashin of the North aired on July 23, 2021, as a side sequel to Seasons 1 and 2 Kingdom. The story of this movie is about the loss of Ashin (Jun Ji-Hyun) family and his tribe beset by betrayal.

5. DP (Fugitive Pursuit)

DP is a six-episode series starring Jung Hae-in, Koo Kyo-hwan, Kim Sung-Kyun, and Seon Seok-hoo. It was released on Netflix on August 27, 2021, and it was confirmed that it will see a second season.
The story of DP revolves around a team of Korean Military Police whose mission is to arrest the fugitive or those who are escaping from the military camp.

6. Squid game

If there is one series that has reached number one worldwide, it is the Squid Game. This series became famous all over the world after its release on September 17, 2021. Squid Game is a survival series where the popular Korean children’s game is played in a different twist. The cast includes Lee Jong Jae, Park Hae Soo, Yoon Jung, Heo Seung Tae, Kim Joo Ryong, and O Young Soo. Squid also gave a big break to Anupam Tripathi, better known as Ali in the series, and to Filipino actor Christian Lagahit.

Squid also had a pop-up event last year at Itaewon Station and fortunately I could visit it.

7. My name is

Aside from Move to Heaven, this series was also on my favorite list. Directed by Kim Jin Min and starring Han Soo Hee (from the Korean drama The World of the Married Yet), Park Hee Sun, and Ahn Bo Hyun. It was released on Netflix on October 15, 2021.

The story revolves around a girl who was seeking to avenge her father’s death and teamed up with a powerful gangster to search for the truth.

8. Hellbound

Hellbound is actually at the bottom of my list since it’s not really my kind of series. It is a dark fictional story about worship, religion, faith and belief. There are monsters that come to earth and judge people that they will be sent to hell.

Starring with lead actors Yoo Ah-in, Kim Hyun-Joo, Park Jeong-min, Won Jih-ah, and Yang Ik-june. Hellbound also held a pop-up event at COEX last year.

9. New world

New World is not a Korean drama or movie but is actually a reality show. It contains 8 episodes where six celebrities went to New World for six days to earn virtual coins by performing a task and playing games that they could cash out if they could escape from the island.

I include this because it’s fun to watch. You’ve seen how strategic celebrities including Lee Seung-gi, Eun Ji-Won, EXO’s Kai, Park Na-Rae, Jo Bo Ah, and Super Junior’s Kim Hee Chul are.

10. The Silent Sea

Last but not least. The Silent Sea movie was released on Christmas Eve starring Gong-Yoo, Bae Doo-na and others. The story is about space explorers who went to the moon and completed a mission that lasted 24 hours.
