These sheet mask hacks will make sure you’re using every bit of the goodness in this bag!
The first time I used a sheet mask, I remember thinking two things: first, how amazed I was with the results, and second, how much I wasted the sheet and the essence left in the packaging after just one use. I’ve always felt there’s more I can do with the product than just swipe on the remaining essence on my neck and hands.
Well, you were right – there is actually a lot you can do to get the most out of your sheet mask. We’ve rounded up our favorite hacks we love to use below!
Use a sheet mask while taking a shower
When we wrote an article on why you should never wash your face in the shower, one reader left a great tip about using a sheet mask in a Showers, so naturally, we had to give it a try. webWhether it is or not, showering with a sheet mask is one of the best ways to get as much hydration out of the mask as possible, especially for people with dry skin.
Here’s how to do it: Once you double-cleanse (before you shower of course), apply the mask to your face, making sure you’re using a bio-cellulose or hydrogel mask. (Microfiber masks aren’t great for this because they can slip off your face and the fibers can attract steam and water, which can start to pool in the mask, especially along the chin.) Bio-cellulose and hydrogel masks literally stick to the face and don’t absorb water, so they’re a great option. . I like to use Leaders bio-cellulose masks, like the Hydration Recovery Mask, because these kids hang on for your skin.
In the heat of a steamy shower, your pores open up and are more receptive to the mask and its essence. Because of this, your skin will feel rejuvenated and moisturized. It can be a little tricky to keep your chin on and avoid splashing water on the mask, but after we tried it out, we decided it was totally worth it.
Use the mask on other parts of your body
Once you have finished using your mask on your face, there is a whole side that has not come in contact with the skin, and there is no doubt that there is some essence left. To make the most of this leftover product, fold the mask in half and wrap it around your neck.
If you feel the mask is starting to dry out, pull out some of the remaining essence from the pack, apply it to your neck, and apply the mask to your skin. This way your neck will get the moisture and nourishment it deserves. Microfiber masks are great for this because they are flexible and easy to use. We used Klavuu White Pearl Serum Mask:
Alternatively, you can fold the mask and place it around the heel of your foot to get rid of calluses. Simply cut the long side of the mask and place the heel of your foot inside so you can absorb the remaining essence. This little spa ensures that you really use this head-to-toe sheet mask:
Put the essence in the package before applying the mask
Before applying the sheet mask, pour out the extra essence from the pack and apply it to your face, and and then Apply the mask over the essence and continue as usual.
This method is more effective than patting the remaining core at the end because the paper will better seal the excess core. This ensures that your skin gets that extra boost of hydration and nourishment and that you’re really using all the products in the package without missing a beat.
Make a mask with your own hands with excess essence
Another way to get the most out of that extra essence is to turn it into another mask entirely. Pour the mixture into a ziplock bag and add a few cotton pads. Seal the bag and put it in the refrigerator overnight. The cotton will absorb the remaining essence and the next morning you can apply the cotton to your face in any areas that need extra nourishment. This essentially duplicates the effect of the paper itself and puts this remaining essence to good use.
Using these sheet mask hacks ensures that you’re milking your mask for every (literally) (essential) drop. Plus, most of these hacks will not only extend the life of your mask but will also provide better results for your skin. Happy hide!
