Instax Mini LiPlay Review – Wander with Jin

This time I’m doing my personal review about the Instax Mini LiPlay Hybrid Instant Camera that I got as a gift for my birthday.

I am a person who loves to take pictures and I really wanted to print everything out. I was planning on buying a manual photo printer but ended up buying something that made me fall in love with just one look. So before we get there story how it happened.

I saw a post about the new Instax Mini Evo and while reading its specs and features, I said I thought this was the one I needed. I tried to search for it in the Korean market but it seems that it is not available in the country. I actually found it on Amazon Japan and it costs around 260,000 won including international shipping. I decided to buy it as a birthday gift, but changed my mind because I was thinking about the tax I have to pay when it arrived.

While searching on Naver, I saw one post about Instax Mini LiPlay. Looking at the photo, I think it is very similar to the Mini Evo because they are both instant hybrid cameras. To complete my research, I watched some video reviews online and checked out its features. I looked for it in online shops but it is no longer available. According to reviews, it is already sold here in Korea.

I don’t want to feel sad on my birthday so I didn’t give up and found one on ARTBOX. It actually costs 239,000 won (about 11,000 pesos) but wait, I don’t think I’m rich to buy this. The money I used to buy the instant camera came from my husband. It’s a birthday gift and I think I deserve to have something I can use and keep.

In order to understand why you fell in love with the Instax Mini LiPlay, let’s check out some details about it.

Instax Mini LiPlay Specifications

The Instant Mini LiPlay was introduced in 2019 and is one of Fujifilm’s smallest hybrid instant cameras. It comes in four different colors – stone white, subtle gold (pink), elegant black, and taupe. It can be paired with a digital camera where you can print your photos directly from your phone to Mini LiPlay. It is also the first instant camera to offer audio captures. It’s powered by Fujifilm Instant Film Instax mini which can be purchased separately.

  • 1/5 inch. CMOS with primary color filter
  • Built-in memory, micro SD / micro SDHC memory card
  • ISO 100 to 1600 (Auto)
  • 28mm focal lengths (35mm film equivalent) with F2 . aperture
  • Shutter speed is 1/4 sec. to 1/8000 sec. (automatic)
  • 10 cm to focus range
  • Self timer approx. 10 sec. / Approximately. 2 sec.

body and appearance

It’s compact body is small and handy and easy to carry anywhere you go although it is not pocket friendly. You still need to carry it with a briefcase or a small camera bag to keep in your purse. I’m also not familiar with other Instax Mini cameras but I like the LiPlay’s body and feel.

On the front of the camera are the shutter button, flash/self-timer, volume button, selfie mirror and, of course, the lens. The back has a film door floor lock, power on, back, print button, LCD screen, MENU/OK button and crossover switch. The sides also have the shortcut buttons 1, 2 and 3, a micro SD slot, a reset button, power, microphone, and speakerphone.

Also, it has a USB port, a drawstring hook, and a slot for ejecting the film where the printed image appears.

It’s my first time using an instant camera, so I’m not used to it. I have no problem when taking normal photos except when taking selfies. I’ve accidentally touched the shutter button a few times but I’m thankful this is a hybrid instant camera where it doesn’t print photos right away.

performance and quality

Instax Mini LiPlay has the extension 10 cm to focus range and autofocus. Half-pressing the shutter button will focus on the center of the target image and a green square will appear on the screen. To aid in low-light performance, the instant camera comes with built-in flash and exposure compensation -2.0 EV to +2.0 EV (in 1/3 EV increments).

I’ve printed some photos I took with the instant camera and from direct printing. I can say the prints are fine although it’s my first time getting this so this just depends on what I see.

Other Features

Since Instax Mini LiPlay was launched for fun and play, there are also additional features that really suit my taste. It has an application that can be installed on a digital phone that can do remote shooting and transfer images from instant camera to phone and put some sounds that can be scanned by QR code.

Also, this hybrid camera can save you a lot of movies since it is a spot and print instant camera. It also has 10 pre-installed frames, 30 frames on the app, and 6 filters to make every photo creative and fun. The print speed is 12 seconds and it can print up to 100 photos on a single charge.

Direct printing from phone to camera

The app also has a direct print option where you can print your photos from the phone to the camera. I have printed some from my iPhone 11 pro and the quality is not bad. There is also an option to adjust the brightness, contrast, and saturation of the image. The app’s direct print option also has 3 filters from mono, sepia, and auto.

Fujifilm Instax Mini Play Review | ideas

I am not a good reviewer when it comes to digital products but for me this product is perfect. It really fit my need and taste. It has a camera and comes with a printer. Although I wanted Stone White but it is not available so I ended up buying Elegant Black and the color is not that bad. It is very simple and classic. Apart from the design, the quality and performance are good. You have exceeded my expectations. As for the extra features, it’s great. I can say that it is worth buying.
