Abstract
Bo Re, an 11-year-old girl who lives in a coastal village, is the only one who can hear. As an elementary school student, Bo-ri is becoming more and more accustomed to talking to her friends while finding it difficult to communicate with her family in sign language. “Why am I the only person born differently from my family?” The more I thought about it, the weirder I felt. Bo-Ri wishes to be deaf, and seeing an old woman diving on TV is deafening due to the long-term diving. Bo Ri jumps into the sea and loses consciousness. She woke up in the hospital and pretended not to hear. Bo-ri is a heart-warming movie. Not only does Bo-ri have no ill will, but all of her family members actively express their affection for each other. It’s a movie starring the deaf, but it shows the bright side of life without using disability as a tragic element. Bo-ri’s intentions are pure, but we can’t support her self-impairment. The film makes us excited to see things from a positive perspective where childhood innocence and family love meet. (Nam Dong Chul)
